On routes like these, a hire car comfortably outperforms taxis and group tours in both time and freedom of pace.
A handful of specifics are worth knowing before you book. Toll roads are managed entirely through the electronic HGS system. Deposits and insurance terms vary considerably between suppliers. Cross-border travel is generally not permitted, even into neighbouring countries. And driving style in larger cities runs at a faster pace than most European visitors expect. None of this is unmanageable — it's simply useful to factor in early.

A hire car works best on routes that link more than one place. Drives along the Mediterranean coast, day trips to Cappadocia or Pamukkale, transfers between Aegean and Mediterranean resorts — on those journeys, your own vehicle is noticeably faster and calmer than coaches, taxis or shared shuttles.
The benefit is most pronounced on longer distances, with children, with luggage or with larger groups. Minivans are a popular choice in Turkey for exactly this reason: two families or a group of friends will often hire one to cover the coast together or reach Cappadocia from the south.

In resort towns, a car is often hired situationally — a day or two, exactly when it's needed. That avoids paying for parking and keeping an eye on the vehicle for the entire holiday, particularly in places where the resort itself already covers most of the day.
A hire car is less obviously worth it for trips that stay tightly fixed: one resort, one beach, one town with no excursions. In that scenario, the car spends more time parked than driven and tends to absorb attention and small costs that don't really pay off.

Wir mieteten ein Auto am Flughafen von Antalya am Ende des 23. Oktober. Wir wurden am Flughafen abgeholt und zum Büro gebracht, wo wir den ganzen Papierkram erledigten. Das Auto ist Fiat Aegea, der Kilometerstand ist etwa 100 Tausend, aber der Zustand des Autos und des Salons ist ausgezeichnet, für alle 2 Wochen keine Notwendigkeit, rekaniyami. Rückgabe des Autos auch im Büro, schnelle Annahme und Transfer zum Flughafen. Große Firma, schöne Preise. Wenn wir ein Auto in Antalya wieder mieten, werden wir zu dieser Firma drehen.

Bei der Anmietung über Ihre Website war ich angenehm überrascht von den Preisen und Bedingungen der Versicherung und keine Kilometerbegrenzung. Es war mein erstes Mal, dass ich bei Ihnen bestellt habe. Ich wurde bei der Ankunft prompt empfangen und konnte mich auf Englisch verständigen. Ich war überrascht, dass ich für die Miete nur in Dollar in bar bezahlen musste. Ich hatte vor, mit Karte in Lira zum Wechselkurs zu bezahlen. Ich dachte, die Kasse würde im Büro sein und man würde Karten akzeptieren. Zu meinem Glück hatte ich einen kleinen Betrag an Dollar und Euro dabei, und dieses Geld reichte aus, um die Miete zu bezahlen. Das Auto wurde mir sauber, aber ohne Benzin übergeben. Aber der Manager erklärte mir sofort, wie ich an der nächsten Tankstelle auftanken konnte. Zwei Tage vor Ablauf der Mietzeit hatte ich einen unangenehmen Zwischenfall während der Fahrt - das Hinterrad quietschte. Es war beängstigend, sich fortzubewegen, da das Quietschen höchstwahrscheinlich mit den Bremsen des Autos zusammenhing. Der Manager bot keine Unterstützung an. Er schickte nur eine Telefonnummer. Ich verstand, dass es sich um einen Service handelte. Aber diese Nummer wurde weder auf Englisch noch auf Russisch gesprochen. Daher konnte ich das Problem am Telefon nicht beschreiben. Ich schickte ein Video und eine Beschreibung des Problems per WhatsApp an den Manager. Er selbst hat sich nicht um das Problem gekümmert. Auf eigenes Risiko fuhr ich auf die Autobahn, um das Auto zurückzugeben. Zum Glück kam ich dort an und gab das Auto zurück. Ich hoffe, dass es gewartet wird, bevor ich es einem anderen Kunden übergebe. Bei der Übergabe des Fahrzeugs am Flughafen musste der Geschäftsführer die Mautgebühren bezahlen. Es hieß, dass dieser Betrag mit der Karte bezahlt werden könne. Aber der Manager hatte kein Terminal dabei, also nahm er meine Karte und diktierte einfach alle Ziffern und den Geheimcode von der Karte und ich wurde aus der Ferne belastet. Dieses Verfahren ist überhaupt nicht sicher, und es hat mir auch nicht besonders gefallen.

Habe einen Renault Megane Sedan am Flughafen Antalya gemietet und das Auto an einem anderen Flughafen abgegeben. Alles ist perfekt! Das Auto war in gutem Zustand und sauber. Es gab ein paar Nuancen, aber es ist schon kleine Dinge. Ich werde schreiben, vielleicht wird es für jemanden nützlich sein: 1) Ausführung des Vertrages am Flughafen Antalya auf "Knie", oder eher auf der Motorhaube des Autos :). Mit diesem Fall sollte nicht verzögert werden, weil, wie sich herausstellte, die Zeit des Aufenthalts des Autos am Flughafen begrenzt ist, liefen wir aus, so konnten wir nicht sofort verlassen. Gut, dass der Ticketschalter direkt neben der Schranke war. 2) Ich war besorgt, dass niemand im Voraus anrief, als wir das Auto zurückgeben mussten, da wir die Rückgabezeit auf einen früheren Zeitpunkt verlegt hatten. Ich denke, es ist wichtig, Informationen über die Rückgabe einen Tag im Voraus zu koordinieren. Alles in allem - alles super, nur positive Eindrücke, DANKE 🙏

Wir bestellten ein Fiat-Auto, erhielten aber einen ähnlichen Hyundai Accent mit einem Kilometerstand von 155000 km. Wir waren ein wenig besorgt, da wir das Auto für eine lange Reise von 2000 km durch die Städte der Türkei nehmen wollten. Der Hyundai hat uns jedoch nicht im Stich gelassen - Diesel, scharfes und leistungsstarkes Auto in ausgezeichnetem Zustand, geräumig und komfortabel - trug 4 Personen mit Koffern durch das Land. Das Auto kostete uns sehr wenig - 335$ für 12 Tage + Kaution von nur 50$. Dieser Betrag beinhaltete die Vollkaskoversicherung CASCO+ (von allem im Allgemeinen) und die Lieferung des Autos zum Hotel und die Abholung vom Hotel (50$). Wir haben in bar bezahlt, was auch für Russen sehr praktisch ist. Seien Sie bereit, dass 50 $ der Kaution vollständig auf die Zahlung der Mautstraßen und Geldstrafen ausgegeben werden. Das Auto ist mit einem elektronischen Mautstraßensystem ausgestattet - man muss nichts bezahlen, man fährt automatisch durch, die Rechnungen kommen zum Vermietungsbüro. Es gibt kleine Fragen zum Service - wir haben ein Auto mit Lieferung zum Hotel um 9 Uhr bestellt. Am Abend kontaktierte uns der Manager auf WhatsApp und versuchte, uns zu überreden, das Auto am Abend zu nehmen, da am Morgen Staus und sie keine Zeit haben, es bis 9 Uhr zu liefern. Aber am Abend konnten wir das Auto nicht nehmen, so dass wir auf den Morgen vereinbart, unter Berücksichtigung der Staus - 11 Uhr. Infolgedessen wurde das Auto um 13 Uhr geliefert. Ich war die ganze Zeit mit dem Manager Turan in Kontakt, und es ist offensichtlich, dass das Problem der Verspätung nicht im Verkehr liegt - er sagte, dass er das Büro in unsere Richtung erst um 10:20 Uhr verließ, obwohl er den Verkehr hätte berücksichtigen und früher losfahren müssen. Aufgrund der verspäteten Lieferung wurde unser gesamter Reiseplan durcheinander gebracht und wir kamen nachts in Izmir an. Das Auto wurde uns mit einer blinkenden Tankleuchte übergeben. Aber ansonsten sind die Manager schnell auf watsapp zu reagieren, Fragen zu beantworten, nicht nörgelnd bei der Rückgabe des Autos. Trotz einiger Schwierigkeiten möchte ich dieses Unternehmen empfehlen, die Preise sind sehr gut, das Personal ist höflich und freundlich, unser Auto war in einem hervorragenden Zustand.

Wir hatten Schwierigkeiten, nachts im Dunkeln wegzukommen. Das Auto und die Fenster waren nass, und die Scheibenwischer waren völlig abgenutzt. Ansonsten ist alles gut gelaufen. Auch die Rechnung wurde ordnungsgemäß empfangen. Der Fiat Egea würde nicht unsere nächste Wahl sein. Der Motor ist zu leicht, keine Automatik oder "Abstandsregelung" Wir würden einen Megane bevorzugen, Automatik, mit Kamera oder Abstandsregelung. Wenn Sie dies anbieten können, würden wir uns gerne im September bei Ihnen melden.

Vorteile: 1) Das Auto ist das, das ich mir ausgesucht habe. 2) Es wurde pünktlich geliefert. 3) Das Auschecken hat wenig Zeit in Anspruch genommen. 4) Die ganze Reise verlief ohne Zwischenfälle. Nachteile: 1) Verschmutzte Windschutzscheibe von innen, was das Fahren bei Nacht erschwerte. 2) Der Tank war anfangs leer. 3) Der Angestellte hatte kein Wechselgeld von 300 Dollar, obwohl ich im Voraus eine SMS geschickt hatte. 4) Das linke Hinterrad war nach einem Drittel des Weges platt. 5) Das hintere rechte Federbein klopft. 6) Bremsbeläge in den Bremssätteln quietschen. 7) Das Lenkrad quietscht. 8) Schmutzige Sitze.

Ich setzte mich 2 Stunden vor der vereinbarten Zeit mit dem Vertreter des Unternehmens in Verbindung und erfuhr, dass das gebuchte Auto vom vorherigen Mieter nicht zurückgegeben wurde. Zuerst wurde mir ein Citroen C4 angeboten, aber da ich 4 Koffer und 3 Personen hatte, lehnte ich ab. Mir wurde ein Opel angeboten (auf dem Foto). Das Auto ist ausgezeichnet, noch im Film (der Kilometerstand war etwa 300 km), in ausgezeichneter Ausstattung. Sie haben mir keinen Aufpreis für den Ersatz berechnet. Rated 10 von 5 von 😊 aus

Real photos and reviews
Each car listing shows the actual vehicle: real photographs, year, condition, reviews from previous clients and the specific terms from that owner. It removes the most common worry — that the car turning up won't quite match the picture.
What's worth knowing before the trip
Turkey works logically as a rental market, but it has a few peculiarities of its own — the toll system, insurance fine print, parking and winter rules. If you're across these before booking, the rest tends to fall into place.
Toll roads and the HGS system
Toll roads, bridges and certain tunnels in Turkey are managed through HGS (Hızlı Geçiş Sistemi) — a fully electronic system. A chip sticker is already mounted on the windscreen of nearly every hire car; at toll points, you simply slow down slightly and the charge is deducted automatically. Cash booths and barriers don't exist for this anymore.
"We always run through how HGS charges are calculated when handing over the car, and at what point they appear in the final invoice. That settles most questions before they arise."
The total for tolls is typically added as a single line on the final invoice at the end of the rental. A small administrative handling fee from the supplier is normal practice on the local market.
Insurance — what's included and what isn't
Third Party Liability (TPL) is included in every Turkish rental by law. Basic Comprehensive cover (CDW) is usually included as well, but it carries an excess and has standard exclusions: glass, tyres, wheels, the underside and the interior are typically not covered. For mountain routes and dense city driving, it's worth taking Super coverage (SCDW) or Full coverage (FDW), which closes those gaps.
"Full coverage only works when the rental terms are followed. If the named driver is at the wheel, the route is permitted, and the incident is reported correctly, there are no financial surprises. Where the contract is broken, coverage may apply only partially."
A note on alcohol. The legal limit in Turkey is 0.5‰, but it drops to zero if there is any passenger in the car — meaning the driver effectively has to be entirely sober. Anything above the limit voids any insurance policy, including Full coverage and Super coverage.
Fuel, fines and parking
Both petrol and diesel are common in Turkey. Diesel tends to be cheaper to run and pulls better on long drives and mountain routes, which is why it's frequently chosen for cross-country trips. Petrol stations are open round the clock; major ones take cards, smaller rural stations are often cash-only.
Turkish traffic enforcement is strict — motorways carry plenty of fixed and average-speed cameras. The good news: paying a fine on the spot earns a 25% discount, and paying within 15 days online or through PTT earns a further 25%.

Winter trips and mountain routes
For trips into the eastern provinces or the mountains — Erzurum, Kars, the Taurus range, the ski resorts — winter tyres and overall vehicle setup are worth confirming with the supplier in advance. Winter tyres do most of the work; chains are kept as a backup for heavy snow and difficult sections rather than a substitute for tyres. Cars set up for winter are booked first, so plan ahead.

Driving style in Turkey runs at a faster pace than most European travellers are used to. Local drivers change lanes earlier, signal less consistently and rely on quick reactions from everyone around them. It isn't aggression — it's simply tempo. The first hour or two is best spent driving calmly, holding extra distance and adjusting gradually rather than trying to keep up immediately.
"The smoothest first days at the wheel in Turkey usually come from drivers who don't try to match the local pace straight away. After roughly twenty-four hours it stops feeling foreign, and from there it's natural enough."
If something goes wrong on the road, it's safer not to step out of the car or attempt to settle the matter on the spot. Turkish road law has tightened in recent years: stepping out and arguing can be classified as aggression, which carries substantial fines and the possibility of temporary licence and vehicle confiscation. Moving to a safe location and contacting the rental supplier is almost always the better course.
For accidents — even a scratch — the rule is consistent: don't move the vehicle, take photographs, contact the rental supplier and call 112 if the situation requires it. A police report is needed in Turkey for almost every incident; without it, insurance generally doesn't apply. Keeping the rental contract within reach is sensible.

Vehicle handover deserves a moment of attention as well. Filming the body, wheels, glass, bumpers and interior at both pick-up and drop-off takes only a few minutes and removes most disagreements about pre-existing damage. It's also worth allowing extra time at return so the inspection doesn't sit awkwardly against a flight check-in.
When to book
There isn't a single peak season across Turkey. Istanbul fills up in spring and around long weekends. The Mediterranean coast peaks through summer and into early autumn. Mountain and ski regions are busiest in winter. Minivans and one-way rentals between cities run out earliest, so for those, booking well ahead is sensible. In quieter months the choice is wider and rates noticeably softer.
